Police officers in Kamagambo, Migori county, have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and confiscated bhang following a public tip-off.

"Acting on intelligence from concerned citizens, officers flagged down a suspicious public service vehicle, registration number KDM 981Z, en route from Migori to Kisumu. Upon conducting a thorough search, law enforcement discovered two bags filled with 401 rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms," the DCI stated in their Facebook wall on Wednesday.

Authorities estimate the street value of the narcotics to be approximately Ksh. 1 million.

The vehicle’s driver, identified as Calvin Okoth Otieno, was ferrying only students, possibly hoping their presence would divert attention from his illicit cargo. However, the vigilance of the public and the swift response by the police thwarted his plans.

Okoth is being held at Kamagambo Police Station as investigations continue.
