Migori: Chaos between Council of Elders factions over shrine
This was after chaos rocked the Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu city.
About a month ago, the faction led by chair Nyandiko Ong’adi was attacked at the hall during a cultural event.
Soon afterward, Odungi Randa, a rival was installed at the same facility.
Nyandiko and his team who met at Yie Kuom Chier shrine in North Kadem ward, Migori county in special prayers and a meeting picked another cultural center for their meetings.
The shrine is dedicated to the history of the black man tracing the history of migration of black people from Egypt to South Africa under beliefs of the Legio Maria church.
He said they are also considering picking another site, Alaw Rachuonyo in Homa Bay county as an alternative site.
Nyandiko said they have talked with experts and lawyers and will move to court to ascertain the ownership of the hall, its legal trustees and the chairman of the elders’ council.
During the meeting elders drawn from four Nyanza counties of Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu elder cultural prayers and sanctified the shrine for future cultural meetings and prayers.
