Marsabit: National exam candidates left stranded as raging floods make roads impassable
Area MCA Chris Ogom called on the government to urgently find a solution, adding that there was need for food and non-food assistance.
“The main area that requires urgent attention is the Hallam River stretch that requires a bridge to enable motor vehicles to cross over to and from Marsabit and Kargi towns,” he stated.
Locals are grappling with lack of food supplies, sick patients and cases of expectant mothers with complicated delivery cases being unable to be transferred to other hospitals.
School going students have also been left stranded in Marsabit town.
Two people have died in the county following heavy rains that also left several families homeless.
As the national examinations proceed, some candidates from six schools in Laisamis sub-county have been unable to access their exam centres.
Marsabit county commissioner Mr. Nobert Komora said at least five candidates were unable to report for exams in Korr due to the unfavorable weather conditions.
Other schools affected include; Mpagas, Farakoren, Ngurunit, Lependera, Ndikir, Jjija, St. Dominic Savio, Oltorot, Loltolio and Arge.
Marsabit County has 9,080 candidates registered for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in 176 centers, while another 7,975 candidates have been registered for Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) across 216 centers this year.
