Mandera: Four injured in clash over grazing land

By Stanley Kimoru

Tensions over grazing fields and water resources escalated in Mandera North Sub-County, leaving four people injured in an attack.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at Muksalah, a border area between Ogorwein and Ashabito.

A group of unknown assailants, reportedly armed with pangas and rungus, ambushed members of the Degodia community.

Ogorwein Assistant Chief Abdirashid Mohammed Osman confirmed the incident, linking the confrontation to ongoing disputes over grazing fields and water pans.

"This is a long-standing issue that intensifies during the rainy season. We urge both communities to seek peaceful resolutions instead of resorting to violence," Osman stated.

Police officers from Ashabito Police Post visited the scene and confirmed four casualties. Ahmed Sheikh Mohammed sustained multiple deep cut injuries on the head, a broken left arm, two broken fingers, and soft tissue injuries.

Ilyas Ahmed suffered deep cuts on the chin and back injuries from a blunt object. Hassan Mohammed Sheikh sustained multiple deep cuts on the head and a swollen left arm.

He also reported losing his national ID card and Ksh 50,000. Isaak Sheikh Muhamud suffered multiple deep head cuts and complained of bodily pains.

The victims were rushed to Ashabito Health Centre for medical assistance. Police have launched investigations into the attack.
