Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a
prime suspect in connection with a wave of theft targeting parked vehicles in major towns in Kirinyaga County.
The suspect
who the police have identified as Alex Mukindi Ndibaru
was allegedly arrested just
moments after vandalising a vehicle belonging to a local trader in Kutus.
The gang is
said to have targeted the trader who runs a petrol station in the area.
Police said
that three other suspects escaped in a car
they had parked parallel to the one they had vandalised before being discovered.
“This gang
has been harassing residents in the area causing sleepless nights to
vehicle owners,” said Gichugu sub-county Police
commander Anthony Mbogo,
adding that the suspect was handed to officials from the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Our
officers are focused on trailing and bringing to book all the other suspects involved
in the syndicate that has been targeting all major
towns and hotels in Kirinyaga County,” Mbogo said.
According
to the police, the gang has been breaking into parked
vehicles, stealing laptops and other valuables left behind by their owners.
Kirinyaga residents led by Tebere ward MCA
Gudson Muchina thanked the police for their swift action.
