Loiyangalani: Fear and uncertainty amid rising water levels in Lake Turkana

Residents of Loiyangalani are living in fear and uncertainty due to rising water levels in Lake Turkana.
According to Alex Lemotou, the head teacher of Layoni Primary School, the situation has disrupted school activities, raising concerns about the safety of learners.
The high water levels in the school premises and surrounding areas now poses as a threat to locals.
Andrew Galgidhele, the Chief Education Officer of Loiyangalani Sub-County, added that classrooms are submerged in floodwaters in some schools.
"El Molo Bay Primary School has been affected as classrooms have been flooded, causing students to miss classes," Galgidhele said.
Other affected insitutions include El Molo Bay Primary School, Layoni Primary School.
Locals have not been spared either. Villages such as Komote and Layen have also been hit by heavy flooding.
Some residents have been forced to abandon their homes and move to higher ground for their safety.
Meanwhile, Loiyangalani Police Commander Nicholas Mutua has warned that if emergency measures are not taken, transport could be disrupted due to the rising water levels.
He also urged drivers to exercise caution when approaching the area.
