A somber mood engulfed Kitui as the six children who died last week on Friday after they were knocked by a speeding Probox at Kyoani along Kibwezi-Kitui road were laid to rest.

Among the six children, three were from the same family, two from another neighboring family, and another family lost one child.

Three were schooling at Kyoani Primary School while the other three were students at Kyoani Secondary School.

The burial ceremony was attended by various leaders at Kyoani sub Chief's office ground in Kitui south on Saturday.

There were calls for justice for the families.

The children were knocked down while crossing the road with the driver of the vehicle fleeing from the scene before later surrendering himself to Mutomo Police Station.

Speaking during the burial, county commissioner, Ruto, said, "The road is in good condition, but the same road is becoming a killer path. Many have lost their lives on the path. We are going to hold a security committee meeting and agree on what needs to be done to put this to a stop."

Senator Enock Wambua condoled with the family, adding that work needs to be done to stop deaths on the road.

"I have learnt that there are 11 black spots that are not marked. Something needs to be done," he said.
