Kisii man who went missing 34 years ago traced in Kabartonjo

A man who went missing from his home in Kisii 34 years ago was this week discovered living in Kabartonjo town.

Joseph Nyaanga, whose family thought he had died, had actually started a new life, complete with a new family in Baringo.

His family had declared him dead after he vanished mysteriously and despite searching in various morgues and hospitals, they eventually gave up hope.

At the age of 35, Joseph embarked on a journey that led him to work as a plant operator during the construction of Eldoret Airport, Kabartonjo - Kipsaraman road, and Kirandich dam in the 1990s.

Eventually, he settled in Kabartonjo town, remarried, and started a new family.

Loruk OCS Moses Ondigi said the man met with some of his family members this week after decades.

According to area chief Symon Cheraste, a former neighbour who recognised him from Kisii informed his family of his whereabouts.

Upon receiving the news, a relative by the name Kipkechem, accompanied other kin to Kabartonjo to find out if it was indeed Nyaanga and was in shock to find it was him.

The family declined to comment on the revelation.
