Police have launched investigations following a break-in at a church in Kirinyaga, where thieves drank altar wine, ate sacramental bread, and made off with church property.

Residents remain in shock over the incident that occurred at ACK St. Matthew’s Mutithi Church.

According to the church’s vice chairman, Eliud Githaka, the theft was reported by choir members who discovered the keyboard missing.

The night guard was accused of sleeping on the job, as the robbery happened while he was on duty.

“The guard did not realize the church had been broken into, and we suspect he has been sleeping while on duty,” residents said.

Police officers visited the church on Monday night and assured the congregation that investigations are ongoing.

Church officials added, “We now have to employ our own security personnel instead of relying on the current guard.”
