Kirinyaga man dies while connecting water pump in river Thiba

Residents of Maendeleo village in Mwea, who had gone to river Thiba to fetch water, discovered the body floating on the surface of the water.

Reports indicate that the deceased, Jacob Kibui Njeru, aged 54 years, had been trying to connect the water pump from the river to the church building, still under construction, when he died under unclear circumstances.

“We knew the man because he was a worshipper at the church. He was a very hardworking man in the village and his death is shocking,” said David Mbungu, a resident.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-west sub-county police commander Mbatian Kantai, said police are treating the incident as a case of ‘sudden death’ until a post mortem is conducted.

The body is currently at the Kerugoya Hospital mortuary.
