Residents of Ngurubani town in the Mwea constituency, Kirinyaga County, are increasingly concerned about the growing number of stray dogs.
Led by Peter Murungaru, residents report that over ten people and livestock have been attacked.
"Just last night, two children in Githogondo slums were attacked and rushed to Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital. One of the children is a grade one pupil at Ngurubani Primary School," stated Pastor Murungaru.
Frustrated residents accuse Kirinyaga County public health officers of failing to control the stray dog population, particularly in the Diambo and Githogondo areas.
Mutai recounted his own experience: "One Tuesday night, while I was offering transport services in Ngurubani, a stray dog attacked me and then my colleague. We were treated at a local private hospital before the dog disappeared."
Other residents are urging dog owners to ensure their pets are vaccinated. "I always walk with my dog and make sure it doesn't bite anyone," said Phillip Wanjohi.
The unpredictable behavior of the stray dogs has caused widespread fear and anxiety among residents, who are now hesitant to walk through the town, day or night.
They have called for intervention from public health officers to address the issue.
