Kirinyaga: 40-year-old man arrested over defilement of two-year-old girl

- Njeru is said to have gone to the family's house, a section of which has been turned into a shop, and lured the girl to his house.
According to Mwea East sub-county deputy police commander, Lucas Chebet, the suspect Peterson Njeru, 40, was arrested by the police officers from Wang'uru police station after the matter was reported by the mother.
Njeru is said to have gone to the family's house, a section of which has been turned into a shop, and lured the girl to his house.
The mother said, "I started looking for her after closing my shop, only to see her coming out of the suspect's house. I was shocked to see my daughter was unable to walk well and as I inspected her body, I saw blood on her private parts," she said.
Chebet said the girl was taken to Kimbimbi Sub-county Hospital for treatment.
"We needed more medical tests and that is why we took the suspect and the victim to Embu Level 5 Hospital," he said.
The victim's family has called for urgent action against the suspect, adding that it has been receiving threats.
"Some people want us to stop the process of prosecuting the culprit. Why are they not waiting for police to complete investigations," the victim's aunt said.
Residents said cases of rape and defilement are on the rise in the village.
The police boss said the suspect is being held at Wanguru police station and will be arraigned in Wanguru law court on Monday.
