Residents in Kilifi County have been urged to take precaution after tropical storm IALY hit the Kenyan Coast on Tuesday.
Kilifi North deputy county commissioner Samuel Mutisya called on mariners to keep off deep-sea areas.
He also warned locals against sheltering under trees due to the danger that comes with storm IALY.
Among areas affected by the storm include the county commissioner's offices where several vehicles were destroyed following strong winds.
This comes as the Kenya Meteorological Department said that IALY has since weakened to moderate levels.
The Weatherman however warned that the tropical storm remains significant due to its intensity near the equator.
Moderate rainfall, stormy conditions and strong winds are expected along the coastal region and neighboring countries.
According to the Met Department, IALY is expected to weaken by Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
