Kericho: Night fires wreak havoc in Ainamoi

Property of unknown value was on Saturday night destroyed after fire broke out at Brooke and Kapsoit trading centers in Ainamoi.

At the Brooke trading center alone, several semi-permanent rental structures near Catholic church were razed down by the inferno.

According to the tenants, the fire started in one of the houses before spreading to the adjacent ones torching them to ashes.

Immediately after the Brooke incident, another fire burnt down business premises near the Sky lounge at the Kapsoit trading center a few kilometres away.

According to the residents, the cause of the fire could not be immediately established.

Members of the public were attracted by heavy smoke billowing from one of the premises.

Attempts to put out the inferno was futile due to the magnitude of the inferno and strong wind.

In Brooke, firefighters were pelted with stones and chased away after arriving at the scene without water.

The firefighters had to go and refill first in one of the nearby streams.

One of the fire fighters allegedly got injured as a result of the ensuing melee.

Fire brigade from James Finlays tea company saved the situation after extinguishing the Brooke and Kapsoit fires.
