KCPE 2022: Students from Ruai's Josnah Primary & Junior Secondary School reveal recipe for success

Brandon Muthii, from Josnah Primary & Junior Secondary School, Ruai, Kasarani in Nairobi County finished in 1st position after posting 421 Marks in 2022 KCPE results.

With this year’s KCPE exam results announced on Wednesday, students, parents and schools continue to celebrate.

The top student in the 2022 KCPE exam - Fwaro Makokha - scored 431 marks.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that the marks were a significant improvement from those of 2021 KCPE's top student who garnered 428 marks.

A total of 1,233,852 candidates sat for the examinations in 28,408 centres across the country. Of these candidates, 620,965 (50.32%) were boys while 612,887 (49.67%) were girls. This Machogu said is a "clear indication that the nation has achieved gender parity at primary school level."

Candidates who scored 400-500 marks were 9,443 (0.77%), 300-399 were 307,756 (24.94%), 200-299 were 619,593 (50.22%), 100-199 were 296,336 (24.2%) and those who scored 1-99 marks were 724 (0.06%). 

Josnah Primary and Junior Secondary School in Ruai, Kasarani, Nairobi County was among the schools in Nairobi that posted good grades, with a mean score of 375.75. 

Brandon Muthii emerged top in the school, posting 421 marks followed by Julia Kamau with 415 marks in position two. Latisha Kamondo was third and posted 414 marks. 

Speaking to the media, Brandon Muthii thanked the teachers and his parents for his performance as he prepares to join Alliance Boys High School. His dream career is engineering. 

Latisha Kamondo was all smiles as she thanked her parents for generous support as well as teachers who ensured she never lacked anything she wanted for her studies. She was confident of her results borne out of hard work. 

“I want to Join Alliance Girls High School and thereafter God willing I pursue a course in neurosurgery. For my dreams to be fully accomplished I would want to a respectable person in the society. For now, I want to urge all other pupils to study and achieve their goals to the maximum so that we can transform the society we live in,” Said a jovial Latisha.  

Describing her parents as the best of the best, Latisha reiterated the call for the pupils to always respect their parents so that they can be able to provide for their education and other basic needs like shelter and clothing.     

Julia Kamau who came into position two said handwork, determination and courageous to succeed are among the virtues that has made her succeed. 

“It’s all about teamwork and being together and that’s why I am thanking my teachers as well as my parents for supporting me in everything, work hard pays, “says Julia.  

On the other hand, Brandon Muthii who wants to be an engineer hopes to join the Alliance High School before accomplishing his career dream. His says it has not been a walk in the park since he had to wake up very early in the morning for his studies.  

According to the school’s principal Peter Wanjama Kariithi, the school had a total of 177 pupils who sat for their exams and managed to have more than 35 pupils who posted over 400 marks in the KCPE 2022 Exams. 

“I want to thank my fellow teachers as well as the management led by Sarah Kimondo Nderitu for making sure we are again among the top schools in the country and especially in the Nairobi County. We have once again demonstrated that education to us is the gateway to excelling in everything and Congratulations to all the 2022 candidates for a job well done,“ said Kariithi. 

Kariithi while cautioning the pupils on the high expectations from their parents urged them to always be careful, obedient and seek God’s guidance in their educational journey as they proceed to secondary schools.  

Josnah Primary and Junior Secondary school credits its upholding of Christian values for enabling it to post good exam results over the years.
