Karatina: Family in mourning as boda boda rider fatally hits boy

A family in Karatina, Nyeri county, has been thrown into mourning following the demise of their only child, who was fatally hit by a speeding boda boda.

According to witnesses, Tim, a 10-year-old boy was riding his bicycle around the estate, when a speeding boda boda rider hit him. 

"The boy was practising with his bicycle when suddenly we heard a loud scream as the boda boda rider hit him," Evans Mutia said.

Locals rushed to the scene to try and save him and the boy was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

Meanwhile, the boda boda was cornered and beaten, before being rescued by police and detained following further investigations.

The parents, overcome by grief, were unable to speak to the press.

Police have warned boda boda riders to desist from speeding and flouting traffic rules, even as parents are urged to keep a watchful eye on their children to ensure their safety and avoid falling prey to rogue motorists and riders.
