A man was on Monday charged with maliciously damaging property belonging to a local businesswoman, with damages estimated at Ksh. 1 million.

Fredrick Odhiambo, known by the alias Agunyo, was presented before the Makadara Law Courts after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved charges against him for an incident that took place earlier this year.

According to the prosecution, Odhiambo, who has been posing as the chairman of a defunct self-help group, was arrested shortly after allegedly orchestrating the destruction of property belonging to an elderly resident of Obama Estate along Kangundo Road.

"This latest charge comes while he is out on bond for another similar offense," said the prosecution.

Investigations into Odhiambo's activities have revealed his involvement in leading a criminal gang that has instilled fear among property owners in the area.

The group has been accused of unlawfully seizing land from its rightful owners, often selling it to unsuspecting buyers, which has alarmed the community and raised concerns about property security.

The case is set to be heard again on July 23, 2025.
