There was drama at the Kakamega County Referral Hospital on Friday after two sects fought to take over burial rights of a man who died in a road accident.

Two sisters of the deceased - Eric Sunguti - who lived in Mululu area, Sabatia constituency, Vihiga County, said their brother was a member of the Salvation Army, though his roots were in the ADC church.

On receiving news of the death, the sisters - Josephine Mukasia and Agnes Busaka - said the two sects went to the mortuary and wanted to start performing final rites on the deceased, including clothing the body in their religious attire.

The back and forth by the sects was condemned by the deceased's family and friends.

The ADC camp, led by one Hudson Atoya, argued that the deceased was part of the church leadership.

"We can therefore not allow any other camp to lead the final rites," he said.

The family is yet to sort out the differences and go ahead with burial preparations.
