Kakamega: Confusion, grief as two families discover body mix-up at a mortuary

An unsettling situation unfolded at Soy Mortuary in Kakamega County, as two grieving families were left in a state of disbelief after a mix-up led to the confusion of their loved ones' bodies.

Preliminary investigations have revealed a shocking twist—another family had already laid to rest a body they believed was their own, only for it to be later discovered that the remains belonged to someone else entirely.

When the family of Cynthia Anzetse, a resident of Lukusi, arrived at the morgue to retrieve their loved one’s body, they were shocked to find that the corpse presented to them for burial was not Cynthia's.

The family claims she was admitted to the facility on November 22, 2024 but their desperate search for her body turned up nothing.

Meanwhile, about 10 kilometers away in Bondeni, located in Sango Ward in Likuyani, the family of Agnes Mukhwana, who also lost a loved one, was horrified to receive a call long after their relative’s burial.

They were informed that the body they had just interred was, in fact, someone else's. The unsettling mix-up has raised alarm in the community.

Local Area Chief Moses Shiundu confirmed that the matter has been reported to the nearest police station, and authorities are now investigating the troubling case.
