A section residents of Kajiado West sub-county are appealing to the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to take action to stop the pollution at Kiserian River.

The residents, led by Benjamin Mzumbi, told Wananchi Reporting that the river has been turned into a dumping site.

“The river is filled with garbage,” Mzumbi said.

“Kuna watu wanatupa diapers na uchafu za jikoni humo ndani (you will find all sorts of waste in the river, from diapers to kitchen waste)."

Several residents fetch water from the river for domestic purposes and the pollution has proved to be a health hazard.

Livestock also rely on water from the river, as well as farmers who use water from the source for irrigation.

Vegetables are majorly grown in Kiserian for commercial use.
