Kajiado: Locals urged to adopt modern cooking methods, stop felling trees for firewood
During a meeting organized by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) in Kajiado town on Thursday, locals were educated on alternative cooking methods to avoid arbitrary cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal.
Some of the alternatives exhibited included modern stoves that use less wood, and charcoal made using soil and grass.
Arbitrary felling of trees has become a major challenge in environmental conservation efforts in Kajiado.
“NEMA is strategies to encourage residents to embrace modern methods of energy and energy,” Eric Deche, an officer with NEMA, said.
He continued, "There are alternatives which involve tapping into solar energy and energy-saving jikos which will help reduce destruction of forests."
