In January 2023 – a man and his female companion died at the Juja dam after their car slid into the deep waters.

It’s been eight months since the tragedy struck – but the memory of the tragic incident still attracts muted talks among residents are visitors.

A lot is being done at the dam in an attempt to rewrite a ‘story of sorrow’ that has been associated with the dam following the tragedy.

Visitors to the dam are now required to pay entry fee. This applies to both cars and pedestrians. A vigilant security guard stands at the entrance, to keep watch and ensure only authorised individuals gain access to the dam.

To prevent any accidents or intentional entries into the waters, barriers made from tires have been erected around the dam.

Additional security personnel are stationed nearby, carefully monitoring individuals parking or sitting near the water's edge to ensure their safety.

"The safety and well-being of every individual seeking respite and enjoyment in this serene environment are our top priorities," said one of the attendants.

Motorists are charged Ksh 50 as entry fee, while pedestrians have to pay Ksh 30 per head,” he says.

An attendant at the entrance noted that vehicular traffic was the predominant mode of arrival.

In close proximity, a uniformed security guard stands vigilant, prepared to quell any disturbances that may arise.

According to the attendants, many visitors still come to the dam to have a good time.
