Isiolo residents call for sustainable solution to perennial water shortage
The water crisis has been occasioned by drying up of water pans as well as a mechanical problem to a borehole that used to provide water for livestock.
Although the County Government has dispatched a water bowser truck that will be stationed at Dadacha Basa, residents are calling for a permanent solution.
Abdi Guyo Jaldesa, an area elder, said residents had resorted to drinking dirty water from the remains in the dried up water pans, a situation that occasioned illnesses especially diarrhea and led to the temporary closure of Dadacha Basa Primary School due to fears of an outbreak of water borne diseases.
"We do appreciate the efforts by the County Government and we look forward to the resumption of learning in schools. However the challenge of water scarcity in the area is a phenomenon that happens every dry season, so we need a sustainable solution," he said.
According to the Isiolo County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of water, environment and natural resources Ali Wario Sarite, the County Government Administration is in the process of coming up with a lasting solution.
"The water bowser truck intervention is only a temporary measure that will ensure normalcy until the onset of rains that is expected in a month," he said.
