Isiolo: Locals warned against ‘negotiating’ with GBV perpetrators for silence
This comes as cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) continue to rise.
Speaking during a sensitization forum that brought together stakeholders from civil society, national government, police and religious leaders, participants called upon members of public to work with authorities to curb cases of gender based violence.
Isiolo Voice of Women Network president Consolata Lomilio said, “Those involved in FGM need to brought to book and alternative sources of income should be found so they can quit the outlawed practice.”
She called for vigilance as a large number of cases are reported during the period when schools are closed.
Isiolo Assistant County Commissioner Collins Bett gave a stern warning to perpetrators, saying they will be arrested and face the full force of the law.
