How Wajir accountant living with disability beat the odds to become MCA

Disability is not inability, nor is a tooth a cure for a gap.

These proverbs aptly describe a young Barurabu politician who did not let disability get in the way of his clinching an MCA seat.

Adanur Ibrahim Abdi, 33, an accountant by training, was elected as a ward representative in Wajir county.

He said he has never let disability be an obstacle in his life but rather a motivator to show his potential.

He was born in 1988 in the village of Buna, Wajir North, Wajir County.

He lost his father at a young age.

Abdi said money was not his motivation to enter politics, but rather, his desire for good leadership catapulted him to the arena.

Regarding the competition in the race for Batalu ward representative, he said that the post attracted six other candidates, whom he beat.

He said his community voted for him because of his manifesto.

Abdi said some of the challenges he had to overcome include tribalism and stigma.

He said his family and friends were his main pillar and raised money for him to campaign.
