Homa Bay: 'Disco matanga' and 'keshas' banned by police in Suba West

Police in Suba West, Homa Bay County have banned funeral vigils popularly known as 'disco matanga' and night prayers commonly referred to as 'keshas'.

Suba West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Samson Akach said this is one of the strategies to protect school children during the long holidays.

Akach noted that the night vigils are a security threat and serve as breeding grounds for social ills like sexual immorality and drug abuse especially among the young people.

Akach directed chiefs and assistant chiefs within the region to crackdown on such activities in their areas of jurisdiction.

He added that they will not allow prayer services to go beyond 6pm adding that the organizers of such services must abide by the order.

He told the organizers of football tournaments to register with his office by Friday this week, adding that the events should end by 5pm.

Akach further appealed to parents to take up their roles seriously to prevent their children from indulging in activities which can ruin their future.
