A 17-year-old Form Three student died after he was struck by lightning at Anduro village within Nyandiwa sub-location in Alego-Usonga sub-county.

Emanuel Otieno was a student at Ambira Boys’ High School.

According to the Assistant Chief of Nyandiwa sub-location Joseph Otieno Aloo, the boy who had been sent home for school fees had attended a church service with his cousins on Sunday up to around 4pm, when he took his father’s motorbike to drop his relatives to Siaya town.

He said that Emanuel was only 400 meters away when lightning struck and the boy's cousins escaped alive.

The cousins raised the alarm and the boy was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The administrator said, "The incident is mysterious because it was not raining at the time of the incident."

The boy’s body was taken to a private hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
