Four nursing injuries following a fire at a chang'aa den

Four people are nursing serious injuries following a fire incident at a chang’aa den in Nyamira County.

According to police officers, the incident happened at Bogisanga 2 area in North Mugirango.

Two men, a woman and a child were left injured after a container used to brew second generation liquor burst into flames.
 
“The four were rushed to hospital by good Samaritans,” Evans Raini, a resident, told Citizen Digital.

Following the incident, County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha warned those behind the sale of illicit brew of serious consequences.

A recent report by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) showed that Nyanza region is second in the consumption of the popular home-brewed spirit chang’aa as well as traditional brew.

Western Kenya region led at 11.4 per cent, followed by Nyanza at 6.3 percent and the Rift Valley region (3.6%).
