An 18-year-old Form Four student at Faza Secondary School in Lamu county died on Monday morning after he was allegedly stabbed following a fight during breaktime.

The suspect is a 17-year-old Form Three student at the same school – and who is said to be on the run.

The incident was confirmed by the village elder Mr. Abud Mohamed and the school Principal Mr. Shoka.

According to a witness, the two students were involved in a confrontation during break time – before one of them stabbed the other on the back.

“It started with a small confrontation, and they kept exchanging harsh words between themselves.

“Unfortunately, things escalated and one of them lost his cool and stabbed his colleague,” said the witness.

The student was rushed to Faza Level 4 Hospital in critical condition – but was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.

“This is very unfortunate. We are urging the authorities to ensure that the suspect is arrested and justice is served,'' said Mr. Abud.

The school principal confirmed the incident on phone – but said that he was not in the school at the time.

The police have begun investigations into the incident.

The community leaders have called for peace and calm as they wait for the investigations to conclude.

Residents said that the incident highlights the need for schools to put in place measures to prevent such occurrences.
