Families left homeless after inferno in Nyahururu estate

A local at the scene of the fire.

Several families have been left homeless after a fire gutted their houses in Maina Estate on the outskirts of Nyahururu town.

The Friday morning fire destroyed more than 24 homes and property worth millions of shillings was reduced to ashes during the 5:30 am incident.

The fire is believed to have begun from an electrical failure in one house and quickly spread.

According to Patrick Gichure, the plot owner, he heard screams and ran outside only to find the fire was enormous and had spread to nearby plots as neighbors tried to salvage what they could.

With the assistance of the county firefighting team, locals attempted to extinguish the fire.

However, none of the tenants from the 24 houses were able to salvage their belongings.

Victims have urged the authorities and well-wishers to help compensate them.
