A section of traders operating in Embu town have decried insecurity in the area, with the latest incident involving a boda boda operator who was fatally attacked 300 metres from a police post.

According to the rider's colleagues, Anthony Murithi was near the Embu Level five hospital Stage on Friday night as he picked a customer at around 8pm.

He was headed for Njukiri, about 5km from Embu town, but on reaching Njukiri, a few meters from the police post, the customer attacked him and fled with the motorbike.

He was rushed to the Embu Level Five Hospital with deep cuts on the head but succumbed a day later.

Speaking during a funeral meeting, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji condemned the attack and urged police officers through the county police commander to act swiftly.

He called for a thorough investigation including a postmortem.

A businessman, George Kareithi, observed that insecurity has affected the business around Njukiri and called on the County government and Kenya Power to ensure the security lights are working throughout the night.
