Embu: Residents appeal for market project completion as vandalism surge

Residents of Kithimu Ward in Embu County are saddened by acts of vandalism targeting the area market.

The market construction project that started way back 13 years ago is still underway but in recent turn of events, vandals have taken on the structure.

While talking to one of the residents, Patrick Njiru said the project has taken long to be completed and the recent acts of vandalism are not only sad but its taking them back to the dark days as the market project can uplift the area economically.

"This project has taken long to be completed. We are pleading with the authorities to consider having it completed as this will not only ensure we do business in a decent place but it also has the potential of creating more job opportunities for the locals. Even the vandals may have a change of mind when they get somewhere to set up businesses," noted Njiru.

Elias Irambu, another businessman in the area, explains that due to lack of security, they are witnessing lots of vandalism cases targeting the market.

"The market project was started about 13 years ago and it stalled midway. We are humbly appealing to both the national and county governments to come to our rescue and have this noble project completed. We need to do business in a decent and secure place as opposed to parading our farm products by the road side."
