The situation has left the remote town in a poor unhygienic state, not to mention the bad smell that continuously rent the air making life in the little town unbearable.
According to Richard Kapngoro, an environmentalist in the area, the situation is bad and will only worsen if nothing is done to address it.
"The condition is near inhuman and need a quicker redress. This is open and clear violation of the rights of communities living downstream,” said Kapngoro – who noted that the right to clean and safe environment is cardinal.
Ravine town business community have been accused of intentionally and knowingly directing waste to the Ravine River which then discharges to River Perkerra. This affects hundreds of residents of Baringo south and Mogotio sub counties who live downstream.
Residents want the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Baringo office in to address the problem.
