With over 950,000 candidates set to embark on their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, members of the public have been urged to provide a conducive environment for candidates.

The national examinations kick off with English and Chemistry papers, with the exercise set to come to a close on November 22, 2024.

"The stakes are high as students across the nation sit for their papers. With such a large cohort of candidates, the importance of a supportive and conducive environment cannot be overstated," Otoa Sifuna, an education expert told Citizen Digital.

Otoa added that examinations are a pivotal moment in a student's educational journey as they not only assess knowledge and skills acquired over the years but also impact future opportunities.

"The KCSE results can shape a student's path to higher education and career choices. Therefore, it is essential for families, communities, and institutions to create an atmosphere that fosters concentration and reduces stress for these young learners," Sifuna added.

He added that communities can extend their support by ensuring that local environments are quiet and free from unnecessary noise during examination periods.

"This can mean temporarily reducing activities that may cause distractions near examination centers, such as loud music, construction work or public events," he noted.

Schools and educational authorities have also been urged to ensure that the examination process runs smoothly. This includes the proper organization of exam logistics, and proper security measures to prevent any form of malpractice.
