Driver of tanker injured in accident, locals dash for oil

One person has been rushed to hospital following an accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

Police told Wananchi Reporting that the victim is the driver of an ill-fated tanker that was involved in the early morning incident.

The incident happened after the driver lost control of the vehicle before it overturned at Lukenya area in Athi River.

The driver was rushed to Machakos County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Machakos County head of fire department Francis Nzioki said that the lorry was ferrying crude oil from Mombasa to Nairobi.

Police officers dashed to the scene to keep off members of the public who dashed to siphon the unprocessed oil from the tanker.
