Residents in Luanda, Vihiga County have decried losses following the invasion of their farms by monkeys.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, residents in Elwambilo Esibembe said the primates have descended on their farms, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
"The biting drought has forced the animals to invade our farms. We relied on our farm produce to take us through this season," a resident said.
Priscilla Obudo, who has also experienced the wrath of the monkeys, said the monkeys do not fear women.
"Once they realize that it is a woman trying to chase them away, they tend to revolt and intimidate you with their chattering and gibbering," she added.
According to Obudo, the monkeys can distinguish between a trouser and a skirt. "Woe unto you if you decide to chase the monkeys as a woman. They will just go about their business. They do not fear women," she added.
Driving away the monkeys has proven to be futile, thanks to their agility and in-born mischief. Locals said the daring monkeys go to the extent of raiding their kitchens.
"Chasing the monkeys away is tedious and takes time. We urged the government to move with speed and help address this crisis," Chris Memo, a farmer, added.
