Police in Busia have arrested a 23-year-old woman after she was found with a child suspected to have been stolen.

The officers have promptly identified the suspect as Lydia Anyango, a resident of Bukiri in Funyula.

In an interesting twist, OCPD Richard Morara pointed out that the suspect had been arrested in January 2024 for allegedly masquerading as a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Butula.

She would proceed to be arraigned in court fully clad in GSU uniform – but under the name Jacinta Ouma.

A few months after the incident – the suspect is back in the news.

This time around after she was found nursing a baby believed not to be her biological child.

Officer Morara said that the suspect left her village home six months ago – only to return holding the one month old baby.

According to residents, the suspect had not been pregnant when she left home, and so her arrival back to the village with a child shocked the villagers.

The suspect was arrested after she failed to produce hospital admission documents or maternity papers in relation to the child.

She is currently being held at the Sio Port police station.
