Bullfighting event turns tragic in Kakamenga

The incident happened at the Mukhonje grounds – a renowned bullfighting arena in the region.

According to witnesses, the two young men may have argued between themselves, moments before things degenerated into a fight, leaving one of them dead.

“The suspect is said to have had a longstanding feud with the deceased, which unfortunately has led to loss of life,” said area chief Mukhonje Isaac Makomere.

The shocking incident happened just as the two bulls locked horns, with hundreds of people cheering. The deceased fell on the ground in heap, his clothes soaking in fresh blood.

A video seen by Wananchi Reporting shows the deceased being dragged away from the arena in a huff, in an attempt to save him from being trampled on by the 'warring' bulls. 

He can be heard groaning in pain, blood oozing from his head area. The deceased would later succumb.

Residents, in their hundreds, armed with sticks and clubs, descended on the suspect, beating him to a pulp.

Elizabeth Susy, the mother of the deceased, said the incident had devastated the family.

“I was called to the scene following the incident, and arrived at the scene only to find my son dead, he had been slashed by a machete,” said Susy.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kakamega morgue.

Police are investigating the incident.
