A sombre mood has engulfed Kapsinendet village in Konoin area, Bomet County, after a man stabbed to death his lover before dying by suicide.

Police have identified the man as Mathew Kipngeno Kirui aged 26 years. The woman has been identified as 22-year-old Shaline Chepkoech.

Young Shaline was stabbed in the chest while in her father’s compound.

“The young man visited my home and was talking to my daughter in one of the houses when suddenly she came out of the house bleeding, and wailing,” said Shaline’s father, Mr. David Tanui.

She died while being rushed to Liten hospital.

Police recovered blood-stained shoes and mobile phone belonging to Shaline in the house where she was stabbed, but no murder weapon was recovered.

Kipngeno’s body was discovered hanging by the neck in the neighbouring Kapset village.

Konoin sub-county police commandant David Kandie who confirmed the incident said they are trying to piece the events together to determine what may have transpired between the two lovers.

“We don't really know what happened, although it appears the two may have quarrel before the unfortunate incident. Meanwhile we are trying to recover the murder weapon,” said Commandant Kandie.

The two bodies have been moved to Kapkatet hospital mortuary.
