Police in Konoin sub-county, Bomet county, have arrested a 21-year-old man who attempted to burn down his mother's house in Beisobei sub-location.

The man, identified as Nicholas Langat, was arrested on Wednesday evening after he burnt clothes in his mother’s bedroom and a section of the house and was about to set the whole house on fire.

The fire was put out by good Samaritans who had responded to distress calls of the mother.

According to the villagers who witnessed the incident and spoke to Wananchi Reporting, the man went on a rampage after his requests to sell a piece of land and rent out some tea bushes belonging to his mother were turned down.

No one was injured during the incident.

The man is said to recently have been released from jail after serving a three-month term for assaulting his mother while armed with a panga.

"The man is a known consumer of illicit brew and abuses drugs," one resident said.

The man will be charged in court.
