Bomet: Man, 28, dies by suicide, body found hanging on avocado tree

A 28-year-old man on Tuesday morning died by suicide in Sugutek village, Bomet county.

According to residents, the body of Leonard Kiplangat Cheruiyot was found hanging by the neck – on an avocado tree near his house.

Area chief Jonah Maritim confirmed the incident, describing it as most unfortunate.

“This is tragic and unfortunate. I am urging families to offer collective support to one another,” said chief Maritim.

Officers from Kimulot police station were called to the scene.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kapkatet sub-county hospital for preservation and postmodern.

According to residents, the area has recorded rising cases of death by suicide.

Just last week, a Form Three student reportedly died by suicide under unclear circumstances.

Chief Maritim has asked residents to look out for signs of distress among family and other community members, and where possible offer help.

Meanwhile, police have launched investigations into the incident.
