Boda boda rider and his passenger die after ramming lorry in Bomet
A third person sustained serious injuries in the accident that involved a lorry and a boda boda.
According to Bomet Central sub-county police boss Musa Omar, the boda boda rider and one of the pillion passengers died on the spot, while another passenger on board the motorbike sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to Tenwek hospital
“The boda boda rider hit the lorry head-on just at the Tenwek junction. The rider had failed to stop to give way to the lorry which was headed towards Bomet, from Silibwet road,” said Officer Omar.
The lorry is said to have veered off the road and rammed a kiosk on the side of the road, but no one was hurt.
The two bodies were taken to Tenwek hospital mortuary, while the wreckage was towed to Bomet police station.
Data released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in November 2022 showed that road accidents had increased significantly in 2022 compared to 2021.
According to the report, pedestrians and motorcyclists have been the major victims of road accidents in Kenyan in the past few months.
The report showed that by October 2022, pedestrians (1413), motorcyclists (1,046), passengers (693), pillion passengers (363), drivers (356) and pedal cyclists (53) had died.
