Alarm raised over rising cases of transformer vandalism in Ugunja

Consequently, a multi-stakeholder approach has been initiated to help combat the vice.
Kenya Power Company’s Siaya County Branch Manager Eng. Calvin Jagongo on Wednesday said electricity cables and transformers were being vandalized and electricity poles stolen at an alarming rate.
“We are working closely with the public and the National Government to enhance vigilance to curb this vice,” he said.
Nicholas Gwadi, the coordinator for the Rural Electrification programme in Ugunja constituency, decried the increasing rate of vandalism, adding that residents had agreed to play its part in reporting culprits.
A public baraza was held at Tingare trading center to sensitize the public on securing the electricity installations.
