Instant messaging app WhatsApp has rolled out 3D avatars for users that can be used as custom stickers or profile photos.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday announced that the avatars, which have already launched on Instagram and Facebook, are coming to WhatsApp.

“We’re bringing avatars to WhatsApp! Now you can use your avatar as a sticker in chats. More styles coming soon across all our apps,” wrote Zuckerberg on his page.

WhatsApp said in a blogpost that users could customise their avatars or choose one from 36 custom stickers portraying various expressions.

“Your avatar is a digital version of you that can be created from billions of combinations of diverse hairstyles, facial features and outfits,” wrote the company.

The Avatar stickers are similar to Snapchat’s Bitmoji and Apple’s Memoji stickers.

WhatsApp also said that users would soon enjoy additional features to the avatars including different shades, lighting and hair textures.

Users will be able to create their avatars on the app through the settings menu. WhatsApp will also have a “use avatar” option in the profile photo settings.

How to create your Avatar

To create your WhatsApp avatar, go to Settings>>Avatar>>Create Your Avatar then follow the steps on the screen.

To set your avatar as your profile photo, head to Settings>>Profile Photo>>Edit>>Use Avatar.

Users can expect to receive a notification once avatars become available to them.
