Twitter is auctioning HQ items, including a Ksh.1.3M bird statue, Ksh.500K planter
Twitter
has put items in its San Francisco headquarters up for auction online.
This
includes a blue bird statue similar to its logo, which is priced at Ksh.1.3
million ($11,000), espresso machines, iMac monitors and desks.
A 190cm planter in the shape of an @ symbol is collecting
Ksh.533,000 ($4,300) online as the company cleans house and offloads memorabilia.
The online auction opened on Tuesday and closes on
Wednesday.
An electric bike charging station and a fizzy
drink fountain with ice dispenser are also among the items the Elon Musk-owned
platform is selling.
Since taking over Twitter in October 2022, Musk has
laid off around half of the company's 7,500 staff and ended many of the tech
giant’s employee perks such as free meals.
A section of the former employees sued, citing labour
rights violations in the mass layoffs.
In November, Musk said the company had seen a slump in revenues
after several of its advertisers pulled out.
“Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists,” Musk tweeted.
BBC reports that Twitter has allegedly failed
to pay rent at offices around the globe, including the San Francisco headquarters,
where their landlord is suing for non-payment.
According to Heritage Global Partners, the
company administering the auction, the sale has nothing to do with preserving
finances.
"If anyone genuinely thinks that the
revenue from selling a couple computers and chairs will pay for the mountain
there, then they're a moron," a representative of the company told Fortune
magazine.
