The award presented by President of Kenya Dr. William Ruto at the Youth Energy Summit honours organizations committed to transforming youth development in the continent.
With an ambitious target to train one million developers, this prestigious recognition highlights Power Learn Project's dedication to bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals through its innovative tech training program in Africa.
Speaking in a panel discussion during the summit, Mumbi Ndung'u, Power Learn Project's Chief of Growth & Operations, highlighted the organization's mission across the country while sharing the key lessons garnered from equipping learners from across Africa with future-fit skills for the energy sector.
"While we push for future fit skills, the energy sector more than ever needs the support of technology to solve Africa's problems. This can only be achieved through a collaborative effort with industry players," she said.
On the occasion, Power Learn Project partnered with Yes! to launch the "Beyond Privilege" Hackathon. This collaborative initiative aims to foster innovation, inclusivity, and equal opportunities in the tech industry as well as the energy sector.
The "Beyond Privilege" Hackathon, commencing on July 3rd, 2023, will unite a diverse pool of talent with the aim of crafting innovative solutions to real- world challenges, with a particular focus on the clean energy sector.
Winning teams will gain recognition, mentorship opportunities, and resources to develop their projects further.
"By directing resources and attention towards technological innovation, the energy sector can unlock a multitude of benefits such as the development of cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, such as renewable energy technologies," Mumbi remarked.
On his part, Simon Gosling, Managing Director of Energy Net stated: "Collaborating with Power Learn Project for the Youth Energy Summit is a transformative journey towards a sustainable and inclusive future, where innovation and education empower young graduates to enter practical job creation pipelines."
