Huawei unveils WiFi 7 for secure connectivity and OptiX to prevent infrastructure vandalism
The first is OptiX, a security solution designed to monitor physical infrastructure such as oil pipelines, fibre cables, railway lines, and power lines in real time, detect potential vandalism and ensure quick repairs in case of damage.
OptiX comes with Artificial Intelligence software that can sense the degree and type of vibration and alert the control on the potential danger. It can distinguish between vibrations caused by wind, animals, and humans and trigger appropriate responses to each.
The second technology is WiFi7, a new generation Wi-Fi router that enhances home and office internet access. The router has the capability to be configured so that multiple devices can connect to the Internet without any conflict over the available bandwidth.
According to Huawei's Chief Technology Officer for Southern Africa, Mr. Matamela Mashau, WiFi7 was driven by consumer demand for faster download and upload speeds, as well as the need to connect multiple devices to the Internet.
“WiFi 7 has doubled the channels from 160Hz to 320 Hz enabling customers to use a single router to connect more devices including multiple television sets, computers and smartphones either at home, in the company or at a business,” said Mashau.
The router delivers internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps and can connect more than 120 devices concurrently.
Mashau also noted that businesses were increasingly shifting from wired to wireless connectivity, with staff consistently needing to be always connected regardless of their geographical location.
The launch of these new products comes at a time when the Kenya government is pushing ahead with its drive to deepen internet access and use by setting up tech hubs across the country.
Huawei's WiFi7 is intended to meet the rising demand for collaborative internet usage, especially in homes and educational institutions, which has seen an increase in high bandwidth utility for multimedia content and online gaming.
