Zetech Sparks raid Equity in tight contest

Zetech Sparks have robbed Equity Hawks in a hotly contested match by defeating them 54-45 in the women's premier league.
The Kenya National Basketball League match was staged at
Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday, Nairobi that saw the students maintain their
unbeaten run against the bankers.
The two sides continued with their growing rivalry with the
defending champions failing to crack the young, enthusiastic students.
Zetech started on a high winning note as they led first
quarter 14-07 before Equity won narrowly
second quarter 16-15 as the game went to halftime break with Zetech
leading 29-23.
The students reclaimed the third quarter with a 15-12 victory
before the two shared the spoils in the fourth quarter 10-10 as the game ended
54-45 at the final buzzer.
Zetech head coach Maurice Obil was impressed with his girls’
performance.
"The girls really showed up to work and they pushed
themselves to get the victory.
We are really proud of them, if we can hold a team like
Equity to this level, despite having so many players from division one. We will
keep building them as we give them confidence," Obilo said.
On his part, Equity head coach Benson Oluoch blamed the long
break for the loss.
"Being the first game since November it was a long day
for us, we were not executing well unlike Zetech, our defense wasn't working
well, but the girls gave their best. We are going to work on our mistakes
before facing USIU Flames tomorrow (Sunday)," Oluoch said.
Mitchell Soukoujou was in class of her own scoring game high
20 points as quadrant Maurine Bosibori, Angela Akinyi, Ashley Minayo and Christine
Akinyi added eight each.
On their side Betty Kananu was Equity's shining star dropping
a team-high 10 points as Racheal Akinyi added nine.
So far UON Dynamites have played five games winning two and
losing three with seven points while ANU Panthers haven't won any game as they
have lost all the four games played.
