Lack of a sponsor for Vihiga County
League Zone A side Emwatsi Young Stars FC has thrown the Ebuyalu-based club off
balance leading to a poor start to the season this year.
According to Young Stars Chairman Gregory
Owiti, a man, (name witheld) had pledged to sponsor the club, but went missing soon after the officials had enrolled for the County League.
This, he says, has left them
struggling to meet their daily needs, the biggest burden being honouring away
fixtures.
So far, Young Stars are yet
to win any match as the fourth season of the Vihiga County league enters round
three this weekend.
“We began the season badly,” Owiti
who doubles up as the Young Stars coach stated.
“I know we will begin improving as we
correct mistakes that led us to fall 2-1 to Young Eagles before Emusire’s Box
14 FC prolonged our suffering with the same score in the following match. But
the morale in the camp gives us hope that we must use the Bugembe match to seek
the winning formula in the County league,” he said.
Meanwhile, Emwatsi Young Stars are
depending on weekly donations to help the team prepare for league matches but
Owiti has assured fans that the team will endeavour to honour their fixtures.
Box 14 FC have taken an early lead on
the Zone A County League competitions with six points.
Simba Youth Academy and Young Eagles
have also won their first three matches with only goal difference separating
the three teams.
A similar trend is the Zone B league where Walsa FC and Vihiga Cranes FC are tied on 6 points after two matches but Shikhuma FC is in the third position with four points.
Regardless of the bad start, Owiti is
optimistic that with the management working round the clock to tie the loose
ends in facilitating the Club to honour fixtures, Emwatsi will soon start surprising
their opponents.
