World Championships: Krop, Kipkurui storms 5000m final

Kenya’s
Jacob Krop and Ishamel Kipkurui have sailed through to the men’s 5000m final at
the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Krop, the
world silver medallist and Kipkurui who both clocked 13:33.63 finished joint on
the seventh place in the second heat of the semi-final held Thursday evening.
The race was
won by Luis Grijalva of Guatemala who clocked 13 minutes, 32.72 seconds.
Another
Kenyan pair of Nicholas Kipkorir and Cornelius Kemboi who went on the first
heat finished 14th and 16th respectively to miss out on the eight automatic
spots for the finals that will be held on Sunday- the final day of the global
competition.
Kenya has
struggled in the men’s 5000m with the last gold medal coming home some 18 years
ago through Benjamin Limo in Helsinki, Finland.
